Alwar Balasubramaniam

Alwar Balasubramaniam (b.1971, India)

Having studied at Govt. School of Arts in Madras; Printmaking at Edinburgh Printmakers, Scotland; also in Vienna. Balasubramanium is a highly skilled and gifted artist. His early works display an unusual precision and control creating ambitious works exploring texture, contour and the language of abstraction. Keenly involved in the power of materials, his language can be called minimalist, with the simple visual motif carrying enormous conceptual and philosophical connotations. Alwar Balasubramaniam through art seeks to find clarity in life. His works, be it painting, sculpture or instillations break their conventional boundaries and often merge into one another. Playful and poetic, his works are challenging and are motivated by serious philosophical concerns; his work addresses the Buddhist and Hindu religious philosophy. The artist lives and works in Mumbai.
