Banksy lands at Heathrow

An exclusive collection by the world-renowned street artist now on display in Heathrow’s VIP suite

Guests using Heathrow VIP this month and early July will get an exclusive first-look at a collection of 28 artworks by the elusive British artist Banksy. The exhibition, on display for the first time anywhere in the world and featuring some never-before-seen artwork, marks the 5th anniversary of Heathrow VIP’s partnership with Tanya Baxter Contemporary.

Heathrow VIP – the airport’s world-renowned experience available to Business and First-Class passengers travelling to and from Heathrow – works collaboratively with gallery and art consultancy Tanya Baxter Contemporary to ensure its suite features a constant rotation of specially curated art showcasing the best British and international artists. Tanya’s expert eye has been integral to Heathrow’s vision of providing the ultimate airport experience for discerning VIP guests.

The exhibition will run until the 3rd of July, to coincide with the high profile international art events: Art Basel, The Contemporary Art auctions and Olympia fine Art & Masterpiece. This is a unique opportunity for VIP passengers to see a discerning collection from one of Banksy’s very early avid collectors and who has tracked his career’s every step. Amongst the unique pieces on display will be some never before seen artwork including “Love Hurts” Also in the exhibition will be Bacchus at the Seaside (2009), a painting in the classical style that Banksy updated by cutting out the figures’ faces and adding a strategically placed painting of a traffic cone.

Banksy is arguably the most well-known graffiti artist in the world, although he has never revealed his identity. His satirical and darkly-humorous work has been featured on streets, walls and bridges of cities throughout the world. In this year’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition one of his pieces, already generating a lot of attention and commentary, has been made from a customs arch salvaged from Heathrow.

Fraser Brown, Retail Director at Heathrow said:

“We are proud to deliver international hospitality with a British twist, and Tanya’s expertise and understanding of how art and travel uniquely combine to deliver a sense of place, elevates our luxury experience to a level unparalleled by other airport VIP services and is a key part of our vision to deliver the best airport service in the world. Banksy, the internationally renowned but distinctly British artist, is a perfect fit for Heathrow VIP and we are sure our guests will enjoy this expertly curated collection on their journey with us.”

Tanya Baxter, Director of Tanya Baxter Contemporary said:
