Wang Guangyi is one of the first Chinese artists to experiment with Pop art. By combining two vastly different sets of pop imagery – propaganda posters from the Cultural Revolution and Western commercial brand names – in his Great Criticism series, Wang Guangyi’s art resonates with international Political Pop using a kind of sarcasm that pertains uniquely to China.
