Carol Bruton was born in Toronto, Canada and spent her childhood in Spain, India and the Middle East; she now resides in the South of France. She studied at the Bellas Artes de Madrid ; the Camden Arts Centre, London; and Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland. As a child living in a fishing village in Spain she began painting using cement to depict houses. Her artistic expression transcended from the figurative to the abstract in a seemingly logical course of mutation. Static geometrically defined houses and landscapes gave way to zoomed in views of palm tree trunks, which mused gently into lunar-like water pools, and later into her series of coral threads, bubbles and rain drops; images at once both other-worldly and intimately familiar.
Her most recent series “Infinity” furthers Carol’s interest in the link between our planet and space. The abstract colour fields herald from reflections looking up through the water to the skies seen during her daily swims. Heaven and nature sing out from the deep blue-black polished disk, where the organic nature of the sea and sky are reflected back and forth in a constant play of light and the surrounding environment. Carol’s work can be found in the collections of: HSH Prince Albert II, The Maybourne Riviera Hotel, Rothschild & Co Wealth Management Monaco, The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, David Coulthard; as well as in many private homes, offices and yachts.
She has twice been awarded the Prix du Jury at the Comité National Monégasque, which is part of UNESCO. In 2022, Rothschild & Co Wealth Management Monaco held an exhibition of her work alongside Bianca di Grassi. Carol has also exhibited at UBS, the Osaka Art Show, the Beijing Biennale, Art Basel and at the Jersey City Museum, New Jersey.
