Louis le Brocquy (1916–2012) was an influential Irish painter, internationally acclaimed for his innovative and deeply evocative work. Born in Dublin, he was largely self-taught and emerged as a leading figure in Irish modernism, renowned for his “Head” series of portraits depicting writers such as Yeats, Joyce, and Beckett. Le Brocquy won the Premio Acquisito Internationale at the 1956 Venice Biennale and was the first living artist included in the National Gallery of Ireland’s collection. His work is held in major museums, including the Guggenheim and Tate.
